Connecting People to Projects to Ideas - Turning Data Into Knowledge
Extract, Transform, Load (ETL)
How ETL allows us to respond to clients:

Discovery Logic's expertise in ETL - extracting, transforming, loading - allows the company to respond to client-specific needs. For example, one customer needed to achieve a complete understanding of the research portfolio it funds. Discovery Logic developed a convenient way to identify subject areas, such as AIDS vaccine research; create a portfolio of related projects; and examine key performance indicators for that portfolio. For this customer, funding is allocated annually, but grants are multi-year, thus further complicating this task. Discovery Logic responded by stringing grants together into “projects.” Each project was then examined for its outputs at the individual project level - number of publications, journals accepting the publications, Journal Impact Factors, citations, coauthors, inventions (if any), patent applications, issued patents, links to clinical trials, FDA-related devices or drugs and other quantitative and qualitative indicators. Today, the customer can browse to a Website, develop an ad-hoc portfolio and examine its key performance indicators in real time.
