Discovery Logic actively applies its algorithms and experience to optimize business processes involving
grants, R&D contracts, loan repayment and scholarship programs. Our advanced technologies allow Discovery
Logic to efficiently automate common and uncommon business processes alike.
Discovery Logic, of course, is not alone in its interest in bringing automation to scientific business
processes. However, our customers have found that Discovery Logic uniquely understands how to efficiently
use databases to replace rote human tasks in the R&D environment.
GRANTS MANAGEMENT
- For the NIH electronic Research Administration (NIH eRA), Discovery Logic supports NIH's
data quality efforts by deploying innovative algorithms to automatically locate and consolidate
duplicate records in the IMPAC II database and to provide ongoing technical and programmatic support.
- For the NIH Division of Loan Repayment, Discovery Logic developed NIH's first online grant
system to fully automate the complete lifecycle business processing requirements of the NIH's five
new extramural loan repayment programs. The IT system delivered and maintained by Discovery Logic has
increased the program's efficiency by over 400% to date. And, since the programs launched in 2002,
Discovery Logic has continued to support the Division's mission with innovative technologies
and programmatic and policy support.
- Similarly, for the US National Health Service Corps, Discovery Logic has supported the
NHSC Application Processing Center since 2004. After learning and maintaining the existing business
process, we then made great strides to increase the efficiency of the programs by implementing online
workflows and launching online applications for both the NHSC loan repayment and scholarship applications.
BUSINESS PROCESS OUTSOURCING
- For the NIH Center for Scientific Review, Discovery Logic developed an automated system to
analyze the content of approximately 80,000 annual grant applications and direct the incoming
applications to appropriate review bodies - within 10 seconds of each grant application arriving
at NIH.
TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER
- For the NIH Office of Technology Transfer, Discovery Logic developed Synapse™ to
allow NIH's marketing staff to quickly match the needs of commercial biotech and pharmaceutical
firms with nonprofit and government technologies available for licensing. Discovery Logic developed
this system by linking technology transfer databases with ScienceWire™, which includes
scientific and patent information.
- For the University of California, Discovery Logic developed and maintains a Website to
allow all UC campuses to input Non-Confidential Disclosures (NCD's) into a central database, consolidate
multiple database records about the same technology, and then display the information online.
